Rugby News – Premier Rd 18

General Manager Comments:

The 2016 Colts Grand Final was played out last night at a wet No.2 Sportsground with Merewether Carton 1 taking out the Major Premiers Title. Merewether’s inside centre, Jordan Bower took out the MVP award for the best on ground during the Grand Final. Merwether 2’s Lauchlan Milton won the Jack Scott medal (presented by Lorraine Scott) which represents the best and fairest for the whole Colt’s season as voted by the Specsavers referees.

Last Saturday, saw the Divisional Grand Finals with Cooks Hill taking out the Major Premier’s title in both the President’s Cup and Patron’s Shield for the 2016 season.  

Rams Premier Rugby heads into the final round of the Minor Premiership (Round 18) this weekend. Traditional rivals Wanderers v Merewether Carlton face off this. Should be a massive day at No.2 Sportsground continuing on from last night’s Colts Grand Final between the 2 clubs. Must win games for Maitland, Southern Beaches and The Waratahs to secure their respective finals race…

 

 

The Viatek Anderson Medal as voted by the Specsavers referees is also very tight with votes for this Round 18 being the decider. The top of the leader board is choked and a man of the match game today from several players including the likes of Michael Delore (Southern Beaches), Jay Strachan (Merewether Carlton) or Nick Davidison (Maitland) could prove the difference.

A big day for popular Maitland President Ben Emmett who chalks up his 150th grade game for Maitland this Saturday as well as his lifetime 500th rugby game (thank goodness for that 1 game played for Pokolbin v Cessnock during the 2016 season). Ben is very passionate about Rugby and puts in an enormous amount of time and effort into the Maitland Ruby Club (as do all Premier Rugby Presidents)… what we would call outstanding ‘rugby grass roots’ volunteers… Some pictures below of Ben in action… Picture 1 – where you would expect Ben to be… Picture 2 – surely that is about to be a dummy and he didn’t pass it…
