VALE Peter MacNamara
It is with a heavy heart that we advise the passing of a real local rugby champion, Peter MacNamara.
Peter played with some great sides of Stockton Rugby Club later to be known as Port Hunter in the late 60’s and early 70’s.
A strong hard running lock who whilst always committed to giving 100%, was admired for his fair play, Peter was respected for both his playing ability, his sportsmanship and kind manners, equally by team mates and opposition.
He was rewarded for his rugby by winning the Anderson Medal in 1971.
Peter represented both Newcastle and Country Rugby, in fact one of his last request’s was for a pair of Newcastle and Country football socks that he could be sent off with.
Both were provided within hours by Hunter Rugby and Merewether Carlton Club Captain Bill Dunn, a great gesture appreciated by Peter and his family.
